Nomvula Mokonyane says ANC KZN is on a mission to regain its lost ground.
Nomvula Mokonyane, a member of the ANC National Executive Committee, has announced that the African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is on a focused mission to win back its political influence. During a recent party event in Durban, she highlighted the ANC's dedication to restoring voter trust and bolstering its support in the province as the next elections approach.
KZN has long been a stronghold for the ANC, but the party has encountered some hurdles lately, such as dwindling voter confidence, internal conflicts, and increased competition from other political groups. The 2024 elections saw a notable decline in ANC support, with the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) making significant strides in the area.
Despite these challenges, Mokonyane expressed her belief in the ANC's potential to bounce back. “The ANC is a movement for the people, and we’re going back to our roots to reconnect with our communities. We’ve listened to their concerns, and we’re taking real steps to address them,” she said.
Mokonyane shared several important strategies aimed at reinforcing the ANC’s presence in KZN, including:
Community Engagement: Boosting interactions with locals to tackle service delivery problems.
Organizational Renewal: Resolving internal conflicts and promoting unity within the party.
Youth and Women Mobilization: Promoting greater involvement of young people and women in party initiatives and leadership positions.
She stated that the ANC needs to prioritize actual improvements in service delivery to show its commitment to the people of KZN. “We can’t just make promises; we need to bring about real change that enhances lives,” she noted.
The ANC's journey to reclaim its lost ground in KZN will be tough, but party leaders are feeling hopeful, says Mokonyane.
