EFF says it's prepared to replace DA in the GNU

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has expressed its readiness to take the place of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Government of National Unity (GNU) if the DA decides to withdraw.

Recently, the DA has threatened to exit the GNU, voicing its discontent with President Cyril Ramaphosa's approval of the BELA and Expropriation Bills, despite their opposition to these measures.

During a media briefing on Monday, the EFF addressed the current political situation in the country and the role of the GNU.

Founded 12 years ago as a splinter group from the African National Congress (ANC), the EFF claims to align more closely with the ANC's ideological policies than the DA does.

EFF leader Julius Malema criticized the DA for allegedly seeking assistance from the United States government to pressure the ANC regarding the Expropriation Act. He stated, “The DA is now looking for outside help that threatens South Africa's sovereignty. The ANC should realize that we are ready to step in as soon as they part ways with the DA. No government will fall just because Helen Zille (DA Federal Council Chairperson) says so.”

In response, the DA issued a statement indicating that US President Donald Trump might be “misunderstanding” the Expropriation Act.
