An off-duty EMPD officer, Banele Skhosane (33) has been gunned down in Vilakazi Street, KwaThema this morning.
EMPD Acting Chief of Police JD Mkhwanazi and Community safety MMC Sizakele Masuku vow to make an example of the killers of the EMPD officer who was gunned down in KwaThema.
While details are still sketchy as to what happened at this moment, it would seem that the officer was attacked by two assailants in front of a spaza shop just after 8am.
The men shot the officer and stole his private firearm.
This shooting comes hot on the heels of the killing of a EMPD Traffic Warden in Thembisa on 29 January.
MMC for Community Safety Alderman
Sizakele Masuku has strongly condemned the senseless killings of officers. Both Masuku and Mkhwanazi vow to find the suspect's and make an example of them, "to the culprits, we can rest assure them that we will find them and we will use a language they understand; an eye for an eye, who lives by a sword will die by it" said Mkhwanazi
In a statement Masuku says these are men and women that have taken it upon themselves to serve and protect people and their property, yet they seem to become targets for criminals.
The MMC has added that she hopes that arrests are made speedily so that those behind these incidents can face the full might of the law.
Masuku has appealed to the public to co-operate and share critical information that may assist in resolving crimes with the police.
Police are following certain leads, but no one has been arrested yet.
