Siviwe Gwarube, Minister of Basic Education, gives the Democratic Alliance the middle finger

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has contradicted her party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), and stated that the true 2024 matric pass percentage is 55.3%, not 87.3%, as widely celebrated by residents. 

Last Monday, Gwarube made an official announcement in Johannesburg. 

The DA has challenged the figures, claiming that the true pass percentage is 55.3% if you include individuals who dropped out of school.
