Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is committed to putting an end to load reduction in townships throughout South Africa.
During the media at the ANC NEC lekgotla in Boksburg yesterday, Ramokgopa emphasized the government's dedication to enhancing electricity supply.
While South Africa has celebrated 300 days without load shedding, the issue of load reduction still persists.
This practice, carried out by Eskom, involves temporarily cutting power to certain areas to manage demand and safeguard the grid.
Even with advancements in eliminating load shedding, many residents continue to face extended power outages, with some experiencing disruptions lasting up to 10 hours each week.
“To truly eliminate this issue, it’s essential to understand the underlying causes,” Ramokgopa stated.
“There are challenges related to illegal connections and meter bypassing, so it’s crucial to develop the necessary infrastructure to support all consumers.
“Additionally, accurate metering is vital to avoid estimations, ensuring precise and complete billing. Lastly, we need to explore innovative solutions for generation behind the meter interventions.
“By the end of March, we will be launching the first phase of our initiative in Limpopo,” Ramokgopa added.
