The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is asking the police to get involved in the reported violence between the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command and the South African Students Congress (SASCO).
A video circulating on social media captures a confrontation between the two student groups in Durban.
This incident occurred while various student organizations, tied to different political parties, were going through the registration process.
The ANC has accused the EFF Student Command of inciting violence at higher education institutions.
On Wednesday morning, a video from outside the DUT Steve Biko Campus showed EFFSC members aggressively dismantling an ANC gazebo and tossing it onto the street.
"As the alliance, we are appalled by the alleged violent actions of the EFF Student Command against SASCO at all higher learning institutions, especially at the Durban University of Technology eThekwini campus. Such violence has no place in our democracy, and we urge the police to take immediate action against those responsible for these violent acts," stated ANC KZN Provincial Secretary Bheki Mtolo.
EWN has reached out to the EFF Student Command for their side of the story and is still awaiting a reply.
