A school principal was tragically shot and killed outside Ekuthuleni Primary School in Kraaifontein today.
Authorities in Cape Town are looking into the murder that took place as students and staff were arriving for the day. Witnesses reported that the principal and a colleague were driving onto the school grounds when three men approached their vehicle and opened fire. The 54-year-old principal died at the scene, while the female teacher was rushed to the hospital with injuries.
“It was chaos as children and parents scrambled for safety with bullets flying near the school entrance. It was a frightening experience, and we were fortunate to escape without harm since we were so close to what happened. I had to take my child home because she was in tears and very shaken,” shared a concerned parent.
Police spokesperson Captain Frederick C. van Wyk confirmed that officers are currently investigating the incident.
“Following the murder, police are on the scene conducting an investigation. Detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes unit are gathering evidence after the shooting this morning (Thursday, 23 January 2025) at a primary school in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein.
“At approximately 07:00, two individuals arrived at the entrance of the school on Henzikile Street in a white Mahindra vehicle. Three unknown assailants approached their car and opened fire, leading to the death of a 54-year-old man and injuries to a female who was taken to the hospital. The suspects fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle.
